A fire that connects.The idea arose from the desire for a place that unites contemplation and togetherness. With the art installation Fireplace, a place was created in the Schenkhaus Zurich where people can meet, exchange ideas and find a sense of security. The focus is on transforming the element of fire into a multi-sensory experience. During the day, the installation serves as a place to sit; at night, a digital fire is lit and transforms the space into a place of warmth and encounters.

Client
We developed the art installation "Fireplace" for the Schenkhaus youth culture project of the Reformed Church of the City of Zurich. Soda Studios' involvement included:
- Ideation and conception
- Community involvement with design thinking/workshops
- Participation in the acquisition of funding
- Design, development, programming and construction
- Installation, device testing and training
Concept
Fire as a symbol of community is reinterpreted in the Fireplace. A round wooden body contains light, sound and fog elements that create the atmosphere of embers and flames. By pulling up the lid, the bench transforms into a digital fire that can be constantly redesigned thanks to movable LED modules.
Implementation
Designers, electronics engineers and carpenters brought their expertise together in the Soda Studios workshop. The result was a true collaborative project that was supported by many hands and ideas at every stage. From conception to programming, it was developed, refined and tested until it reached its final finesse. Supplemented by training and mood videos, this effect can be passed on in the long term.

Using tools such as the Tektronix TDS 2004C, electronic signals were measured, tested and optimized so that the installation was technically reliable
